Kirkland Bluetooth Employees, If You Lived in The Highlands, You’d Be Home In 7 Minutes!

In Exploring Kirkland, Kirkland WA, Kirkland, WA Real Estate on February 10, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Welcome  BluetoothI hear the company has moved from Bellevue to Kirkland. According to Kirkland Views, Bluetooth’s move to Kirkland is because:

Reasons for choosing Kirkland include location, amenities promoting a healthy lifestyle within a new building, competitive market pricing, and a larger space that allows for future growth.

Their new office is located on Lake Washington Blvd NE, just down the road from my Windermere Real Estate office.  We’re neighbors. The Windermere office overlooks the wetlands, which are beautiful, but the Bluetooth office looks out over Lake Washington, the Olympic Mountains, and sunsets.

This view is similar to the view from Bluetooth’s new office, but from a different point on the lakeshore.

Kirkland is a wonderful place to live because of its great parks, the lake, and the vibrant downtown.  So living anywhere in Kirkland would make a Blutoother’s(sp?) commute just a matter of minutes.

I live in the Kirkland Highlands and can speak for what a great, active community it is.  The Highlands is located close to downtown and has easy access to buses and the highway.  We’re just 1/2 mile to Parkplace and a little over one mile to downtown.

Our neighborhood is made up of a variety of homes.  There are homes from traditional to contemporary, homes that are close to a century old and brand new.  Homes range from condos/planned unit development homes in the $200,000 range to single family homes over one million dollars.  There’s a home to fit every style and budget.

We have wonderful parks in our community and an active group of Kirklanders, who have taken on the stewardship of Cotton Hill Park, a park that has been reclaimed from invasive plants.

Homes in the Kirkland Highlands are located blocks from Peter Kirk Elementary and Kirkland Junior High Schools, both part of the highly rated Lake Washington Schools.

There are many other reasons to live in Kirkland.  Anyone want to share some of their favorite reasons to live in Kirkland?

First Day of School is September 2nd-Be Careful Out There

In Kirkland News, Kirkland WA, Schools, WA on August 27, 2008 at 9:06 am

School starts on September 2nd.   Check the Lake Washington Schools Website for each school’s times.  The school day varies for each school.  Have a wonderful school year.

But for all of the rest of us, let’s be careful out there.  More kids will be out and about, walking to school. Be extra careful as you are driving near the schools.

How Safe Will It Be For Kids To Cross the Railroad Tracks to Go to School in Kirkland, Washington?

In Bellevue, Kirkland News, Kirkland WA, rails to trails, WA on May 4, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Picture a commuter train whizzing by in Kirkland during the morning commute on its way to Bellevue.  The tracks completely separate the Kirkland Highlands neighborhood from Peter Kirk Elementary School and Kirkland Junior High.  There’s no other way to walk to school and Peter Kirk is a “walking” school.   Picture kids crossing the tracks to visit friends after school hours when there’s no supervision at the crossing.

The following videos show school children crossing the railroad tracks on the way to school from the Kirkland Highlands neighborhood.  The entire neighborhood of over 600 homes is separated by the railroad tracks from the school.  The kids cross over 110th Ave NE and the railroad tracks behind Peter Kirk Elementary to get to school.  As you can see, the kids are walking and running to school.

The crossing guard raised her concern about kids walking down the tracks to get to school in the morning.  Someone can come to educate the kids about railroad safety, but having worked with middle school kids for 13 years in the past, I’m familiar with typical teen and “kid” behavior.  Kids won’t remember what someone told them three months ago about not walking on the railroad tracks. Walking on the tracks is more of a problem when kids go from neighborhood to neighborhood to see their friends or  walk to downtown Kirkland, not just to school.  There are no crossing guards watching over them at those times.

From the Highlands neighborhood, kids also cross over the railroad tracks in Cotton Hill Park, a few blocks north, to get to Kirkland Junior High.  That crossing is far more concerning because young teens tend to be busy multi-tasking as they walk to school.  Picture typical teen behavior and you see teens talking to friends, talking on cell phones, running, and listening to IPods.  You do not picture kids paying attention as well as they should to their surroundings.  How many teens do you know who think they are invincible and will try to tempt fate by running in front of a train as they are rushing late to school?

If a fence is erected to stop people from walking down the tracks, kids will be cut off from their friends.  Walking paths will be cut off to schools. Neighborhoods will be cut off from each other.  Not only is the rail line as a commuter line a safety hazard, it will hurt the fabric of the community.

Coming soon: The New and Improved Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington

In Kirkland News, Kirkland WA, Schools on March 7, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Lake Washington High School

For those of you who were not able to make last night’s hearing on Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington, here is a great article from The Seattle Times which gives an overview of the new high school building coming in 2011. Construction of the new school is scheduled to begin exactly a year from now.  The City of Kirkland has the master plan for the school available online.

Exciting changes are being incorporated into the new structure that will be state of the art and allowing the school to accommodate any need for future changes.  The new high school will be built around a central commons, have a performing arts center, and flexible, high-tech classrooms.  With space planned to accommodate over 1200 students, the new school building will be 210,000 square feet with three separate wings off a central commons, two gyms, and a 400 seat performing arts center.  Northstar Junior High will also be on the school campus.

What’s also exciting is the current teaching staff and administrators gave input into the planning and design of the school.  It should prove to be a “real world” school.

It’s the Last Few Days to Help Kirkland Jr High Students Raise Money for Computers, Books, and Materials

In Kirkland News, Schools, services on September 25, 2007 at 10:30 am

Nail salonI stopped by one my favorite nail salons last week

 Pedicure

and not only received a great pedicure, but found out about the latest fundraiser for Kirkland Junior High

 Kirkland Jr High

Tiffany Dao, whose Mom, Tracy,  owns the nail salon, is actively raising money for the drive. She’s a seventh grader at Kirkland Jr. High.  The school is hoping to raise $70,000 for materials and computer equipment.

According to Tiffany, if the students meet the goal of $70,000, then the kids get to see the Vice-Principal, Mr. Mott,  shave his head.  It’s a win-win situation.  The kids get to actively learn how to raise money and the school has more  money to invest in equipment for the kids. If the students reach the school’s goal, they can have fun watching the vice principal shave his head!  Sounds good to me.

You can contribute online to the cause. You can also call 1-800-847-7898 and make a donation.  You need to know a student at the school and the school code before contributing, so your money will tagged for the right student and school.

The students are selling all kinds of things.  Besides the usual magazines, there are some great things for sale.  I bought a stadium blanket (so the next time I go to Chateau St Michelle for a concert, I will have something to sit on), a gadget holder and  first aid kit for the car.

I wish all the students at Kirkland Jr High the best and will be rooting for them to make their goal of $70,000.
