Huffing and Puffing Up 112th in the Kirkland Highlands

Kirkland Triathlon in the Highlands

The Kirkland Triathlon came through the Kirkland Highlands last Saturday.  The race gave me a new appreciation for the difficulty of getting up 112th Ave NE into our neighborhood!  While taking photos, I looked at the road in a different light, noticing the long climb to the road.   As you can see from the first photo, 112th actually disappears as it drops down towards NE 87th.  This made it slow moving for a lot of the bikers.  The race began downtown, headed east on 7th, then north through the Highlands over to Rose Hill and then back into Kirkland in Houghton.

I got to see some of the leaders of the bike race as they flew downhill through Houghton.  I’d just finished working out and before I headed back to the Highlands, some of the leaders came zooming town the hill on NE 68th. The leaders were coming through Houghton just after 9 AM.  These folks were really moving!

Looking Forward To Kirkland’s Metropolitan Market

In Kirkland News, Kirkland WA on March 23, 2010 at 5:17 am

I know Kirkland’s Metropolitan Market will be in Houghton, not in the Kirkland Highlands, but I think they’ll let those of us who live in the Highlands shop at the market, so I have to tell you how impressed I was with Queen Anne’s Metropolitan Market.

I was in Seattle on Friday for Seattle’s Real Estate Bar Camp, a learning, not a bar tending class, and grabbed lunch over at the market.  They had the best cheese, deli, and take out sections I’ve ever seen. Food, glorious food.   I’m very experienced in take out food, so I know good when I see it. Great choices in hot food, cold food, soups, sandwiches, you name it.   The market is a great addition to Kirkland.

The Kirkland Houghton Ducks Were Out This Morning

In Exploring Kirkland, Kirkland WA on March 4, 2010 at 10:25 pm

There he was, the “resident” duck of the PCC shopping center (Puget Sound Consumer Co-op) in Kirkland’s Houghton neighborhood this morning.   Apparently, Mr. Duck, who is a partner to Ms. Duck, is a local institution.  He was completely comfortable standing by me while I took a picture.  It’s clear he expects food.  He has no fear of people.

I first saw him without his partner.  Apparently, she was on the other side of NE 68th St at Bank of America.  Perhaps she was looking for some spare cash?

Soon she was safely across the street.

I’m sure they were discussing how disappointed they were that I wasn’t a good prospect for food.
